on: 'Maus II' by Art Spiegalman

Disscussion topic D: Words and Pictures

Though people have complained about it before, i found it pretty easy to tell the difference between the scenes with his father talking to him in Florida and the narrated story of when he was in Auschwitz. I thought it was interesting how Spiegalman put in his own tribulations to his fathers memoir. He becomes depressed with his awful topic, but is still obligated to finish what he started. Through this, he uses a certin honesty with the reader that backs up the terrible events of the holocuse. He shows the frustrated reltionship he had with his father when he was alive. Using his real same soetimes in stead of 'father'. When his father had passed away and art brought out the tape recorder recorder and its just him yelling about Mala, it gives the same erie personality to him as Art must have felt the entire time he was writing it. Another thing was the masks, was this to show that he himself doesent feel like a jew because he never had to go through what his father and sixmillion other jews had to go through, or is it to say that his judism is removable and not a death threat as it was in 1944?
